In May 2017, I was honoured as well as humbled to be elected as the Town Mayor of Loughton, a vibrant town in the district of Epping Forest in Essex. I still feel privileged to have been given this opportunity to serve the community, and I am delighted to have helped raise valuable funds to support a number of local charities. I had a wonderful year.
In my official capacity as Mayor, I attended approximately seventy-five events, and I received a warm welcome wherever I went. I was amazed by the number of people who approached me or stopped me for a selfie. In Chinese terms, I would like to refer to my mayoral year as the ‘Year of the Selfie’. All in all, I am so glad I had the opportunity to see Loughton for what it truly is – a wonderful, kind, and caring cluster of communities.
